This hotel was part of various chains over the years, ending it's days as an independent hotel. Two of the buildings on the site were built in 1963, with another built in 1980, according to city property records. Merani Hospitality bought the rundown property in 2009, the year that it closed, and are planning a 184-room Doubleday hotel with an 8 or 10-story tower. Much of the building would be demolished, though plans show a four-story and a three-story building remaining as part of the project. Demolition was expected to begin in October 2014, but did not start until January 2015.

Various internet reviews:

October 2008: This hotel was a mess. First of all, the keys for the room did not work. Each and every time we left the room and came back we had to try the key about 10 or more times before it would work. The service was very very poor. Their so-called free breakfast when we went down for it the service people in a very rude manner said it's closed and we would have to pay. The room was totally a disaster. There was cobwebs, dirt on the windowsill, the ice bucket was dirty, the toilet didn't work - each time we use it we have to fiddle with it so that it flush. Each time we slept on the bed it felt like we were sleeping on someone's mess. I would never go back there. The hotel is just a mess inside and out.

August 2006: When I reached to Niagara Falls I called the hotel as I was lost while driving. The lady from the hotel gave me direction and I tried to follow it but I couldn't find the street she told me to go as the road before it was closed because of construction. I called again the hotel and the same lady almost yelled at me while repeating the direction. I tried to tell her that I am having trouble finding the street because of construction and she yelled at me to go to that street and hung up on me. Finally I drove around for 15 min. and reached the hotel at 11.30 am. I had called a night before and I asked for early check in and I was told that I will be able to check in early. At the front desk I met the same lady and she refused to check us in before 3 pm even when we had 5 month old baby. We went to Falls and Town and came back at 3.30. The room was dirty, hot, smelly and dirty bathroom -overall nasty. I asked to upgrade and the guy at front desk very rudely refused to upgrade and asked me to call Expedia to upgrade the hotel. I called Expedia and the lady from there called the hotel and the hotel director said that I can check out of the hotel and find another hotel. After waiting for over 4 hrs to check in the hotel I felt so humiliated and embarrassed that I checked out of there and was without any room with a little baby. Even the Expedia person said that the guy at hotel was very arrogant. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone nor would I stay there. If you don’t want to ruin your vacation don’t even think about it.

July 2006: Our travel agent booked 20 rooms at this property which of these 20 rooms, 19 of them were a disaster. To make a long story short all of my electronic property worth $2,500 was stolen from the room. According to the police, and I have the report to prove it, " all tested and it was an inside job". Their room especially for vacation is supposed to be a safe haven. Then again from the GM's mouth was the fact that “What do you want, my employees only get paid $8.00 an hour" and why would you travel with all your cameras? Helloooooo!! VACATION!! It’s called. Go figure why my property was stolen. I do not recommend this property to anyone. To begin the first night they had to change our room because the keys, all 6 of them did not work, and when arrived to new room same thing plus AC did not work, toilet had no cover, blood on pillow case and filthy rug, including that none of the EXIT fire signs were ON which creates a fire hazard. Truly not recommended for a safe place to make it your home away from home on vacation, especially with your family. By the way their supposedly FREE breakfast - Stale potatoes and OJ with some fruits - truly a disaster.
